Terms of Service
Effective September 2, 2026 (last updated September 12, 2026)
Lexijar ("the app," "we," "us") is a small, independently-run word-of-the-day app at lexijar.com, provided by an individual operator, not a registered company. By creating an account or using the app, you agree to these terms. If you don't agree, please don't use the app.
Who can use Lexijar
You must be at least 13 years old to create an account. The app is not directed at children under 13, and accounts found to belong to someone under 13 will be removed. You're responsible for anything that happens under your account.
Your account
Sign-in is handled entirely through Google or, on the mobile app, Apple; there's no separate Lexijar password. Signing in with Google and signing in with Apple are treated as two separate accounts today, even if the email is the same. You may choose a username, which other users can see and use to find and add you as a friend. Usernames are checked against a profanity filter and a basic format rule, but we don't otherwise review them; don't pick one that impersonates another person, is misleading, or is intended to harass anyone. We may reset or remove a username that violates this.
Friends and reactions
Adding a friend shares your quiz scores, streak, and username with that person, and lets you send each other small emoji reactions on quiz attempts, as described in the Privacy Policy. Only send friend requests to people you actually know, and use reactions the way they're intended: as lighthearted encouragement or ribbing between friends, not to harass anyone. You can remove or block a friend at any time, and we may suspend an account that's used to harass or abuse other users through this feature.
Acceptable use
Please don't use Lexijar to:
- Harass, abuse, or impersonate another person
- Attempt to access another user's account or data
- Interfere with the app's normal operation, for example by automating requests to the quiz or friend-request systems, or attempting to bypass rate limits
- Use the app for anything illegal
We may suspend or terminate an account that violates these terms.
Content you submit
Your notes, chosen username, and any other content you enter remain yours. By submitting it, you give us permission to store and display it back to you (and, for your username and quiz activity, to friends you connect with) as part of running the app. You're responsible for what you submit; don't enter anything you don't have the right to share, or anything that violates these terms.
Third-party services
Lexijar relies on a few outside services to work: Google or Apple for sign-in, AWS Lightsail for hosting, and (on the mobile app) Expo for push notification delivery. Your use of features that touch these services is also subject to their own terms: Google's Terms of Service, Apple's Sign in with Apple terms, and Expo's Terms of Service. We aren't responsible for outages or issues on their end.
No warranty
Lexijar is a small, independently-run project, provided "as is," without warranties of any kind. We don't guarantee the app will always be available, error-free, or uninterrupted, and word definitions, quiz content, and other material are provided for general interest and learning, not as professional or authoritative advice.
Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent allowed by law, we aren't liable for any indirect, incidental, or consequential damages arising from your use of, or inability to use, the app. Our total liability for any claim relating to the app is limited to the amount you've paid us to use it, which, since the app is free, is zero.
Termination
You can stop using the app at any time and delete your account yourself, in-app, as described in the Privacy Policy. We may suspend or terminate an account that violates these terms.
Changes to these terms
We may update these terms from time to time. Any changes take effect as soon as they're posted on this page, and continuing to use the app after that means you accept the updated terms.
Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the State of California, without regard to conflict-of-law principles. If a disagreement comes up, please email support@lexijar.com first so we can try to sort it out directly.
